Every two years, the German transmission system operators present their Gas Network Development Plan (NDP). It is an integrated plan describing key elements of network expansion to maintain a secure, environmentally compatible and efficient supply of natural gas. The NDP is based on a detailed scenario framework and comes with an implementation report describing projects from past Network Development Plans that have since been implemented
With the scenario framework, the transmission system operators present theoretical assumptions about the development of production, supply and consumption of gas and its exchange with other countries over a period of ten years.Read more
Planned investment projects in the regional and community-wide network infrastructure as well as in relation to storage systems and LNG re-evaporation systems are taken into account, as are the effects of any interruptions in supply. When developing the various scenarios, a connection is also established with the scenario framework of the electricity transmission system operator.

Network Development Plans
On the basis of the assumptions of the scenario framework confirmed by the Federal Network Agency, the transmission system operators draw up the draft of the network development plan for the German gas transmission network. The gas flows for the next ten years are modeled accordingly.Read more
The NEP contains all effective measures for the needs-based optimization, reinforcement and expansion of the network as well as for guaranteeing the security of supply, which are necessary for a safe and reliable network operation over the next ten years. The NEP also focuses on all network expansion measures that have to be carried out over the next three years.
