Network Development Plan

The energy transition which has been decided on by legislators in Germany would be impossible without the expansion of German energy networks. This mainly concerns the step-by-step discontinuation of the use of nuclear power by 2022, combined with ambitious expansion targets for renewable energies. In this context, natural gas and the gas transmission system will play a key role as future-oriented partners to renewable energies.

The transmission system operators are consciously playing their part in shaping the energy transition and the process of integration between energy markets. In order to determine the transmission capacities which will be required in the future, they produce a Network Development Plan Gas (NDP) each year in close cooporation with the National Regulatory Authority (BNetzA).
